| Rare Trifecta On Wayne Farm
A Wayne County Farmer -- and one of his cows -- are basking in the attention brought on by a rare trifecta. On Chuck Raes' farm in Lyons, 80 cows keep him busy. But one cow in particular has received quite a bit of attention lately. “She's just your average ‘you do what you gotta do, I do what I gotta do' cow," said Raes of a Holstein named Myrtle. Actually, Myrtle is not so average. Each of the past three years, she delivered twins. “We call her ‘Fertile Myrtle,'" said Raes. On July 1, Myrtle more than lived up to that nickname. Raes was driving by the pasture and noticed one calf. He got closer and saw two others. Myrtle had given birth to triplets. “I was shocked. I didn't think in a million years I'd have triplets," said Raes, who named them Mary, Sherry and Larry.
Cornyn backs Enron investors' suit against banks
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn maintains his longtime stance in favor of allowing Enron investors to sue banks for alleged behind-the-scenes participation in the energy company's fraud, his office said today. "His position remains unchanged and the White House will be made aware of Sen. Cornyn's views on this matter," said Bryan Walsh, a spokesman for the Texas Republican. Cornyn's statement came in response to efforts by plaintiffs in a massive Enron shareholder lawsuit to rally support in Washington for investors seeking to sue supporting players in fraud. Meanwhile, in a separate Enron lawsuit centered on employee losses of retirement funds, U.S. District Judge Melinda Harmon, of Houston, has ordered an Illinois company that botched distributions of settlement money to fix the problem and stand by its repair work.

Crews Remove Car from Canal
Monroe County Sheriff's deputies and Spencerport firefighters worked for hours Wednesday to recover a car from the Erie Canal. Shortly after 1 p.m. a tow truck pulled the vehicle from the water. The Monroe County Sheriff's Department said a Rochester man, whose name is not being released, drove into the canal off Union Street in Spencerport around 10 p.m. Tuesday. Police credit a man with jumping into the water and saving the man's life. Divers continued to search the canal, not knowing if someone else was in the vehicle. "We asked if anyone else was in the car with him again, and he said 'I don't know' - he didn't remember, so red flags went up for us," said Joe Muniz from the Spencerport Fire Department. "We got our boat in the water, got our guys in the rescue suits and started combing the water to see if we could find anything." Rescuers did not find anyone else in the car.
Canal Rescuer's Instincts Kicked In
The man who pulled a driver out of the Erie Canal in Spencerport Tuesday night doesn't call himself a hero. He's just a recent college graduate, enjoying his summer and looking for a job in business administration. He says he was just in the right place at the right time. "We saw him surface, flailing his arms around, real panicky. The current was taking him underneath the bridge," said 24-year-old Mike Hall. Hall was traveling with friends after a softball game when people flagged them down, telling them a man was trouble in the canal. Hall said he tried to encourage the man to swim to the shore, but the man was disoriented. That's when Hall said he jumped in and pulled the man to safety. Hall said while he grew up around a pool, he's not a swim champ.
