| Foreclosures: Hardest hit ZIP codes
For sheer volume, housing foreclosures across the nation appear to be moving from the Rust Belt to the Sun Belt. A study for CNNMoney.com by RealtyTrac, an online marketer of foreclosure properties, showed that 139 of California's ZIP codes fell within the top 500 for total foreclosure filings in the United States. The next highest count for any state is less than half that at 72 and is in another sun-belt state - Florida. .
NASA Crew Works on Space Station
High above the Earth astronauts at the International Space Station are getting a lot accomplished. During a spacewalk Saturday they installed an addition to the station. They lowered a two-ton beam by using the space station's robotic arm. Teacher Astronaut Barbra Morgan is among the crew members. Sunday, some possible repair work will take place. Astronauts will try to get a better look at the site of a scrape on shuttle Endeavour's belly. The gash is several inches long. A flying piece of ice caused it. FBI Warns Of Foreclosure Scams - Inland Foreclosures Soar 200 Percent
SAN BERNADINO (Special to the NNPA from blackvoicenews.com) - Scammers looking to cash in on the misery of desperate homeowners need look no further than the Inland Empire where foreclosures in San Bernardino County jumped an astonishing 187 percent in the second quarter. Riverside County leaped 207 percent. The two counties were among the hardest hit in California, according to a report released Monday by RealtyTrac. Foreclosures in southern California rose 186 percent as 104,575 homes in the state went into some form of foreclosure in the first half of 2007. As foreclosures skyrocket in the region, the number of companies offering help is increasing as well. The FBI has joined with the Better Business Bureau, assorted States Attorneys and local law enforcement in warning consumers about 'bogus' foreclosure recovery operations.
NOTES | Brennaman signs extension with Reds
Broadcaster Marty Brennaman signed a three-year contract extension to remain with the Cincinnati Reds through the 2010 season, team officials said yesterday. Brennaman, 65, has been the lead voice of Reds radio broadcasts since 1974. His previous contract, signed in 2004, was set to expire after this season. Brennaman was inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame in Salisbury, N.C., in 2005, the same year he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in Chicago. The Reds broadcaster also was a 2000 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. The award is presented each year by the Hall of Fame to a broadcaster for major contributions to baseball. Minor-league umps balk at background checks If a minor-league umpire refuses to allow Major League Baseball to perform credit checks, it might cost him a job in the big leagues.
